MEDIEVAL FAIRE KAISERSLAUTERN:
We bear ye glad tidings of a great event in our city:

The Medieval Faire at the "Volkspark" in Kaiserslautern!

SEHET UND STAUNET! Behold and Marvel! Come ye from every land! The Middle Ages hands-on at the Legendary Medieval Faire!

Die Legende e.V. (The Legend), the benevolent company for medieval culture and fantasy role playing in Kaiserslautern, presents its great Third Legendary Medieval Faire, August 15th through 17th, 2008. Die Legende's two previous Faires, organized with extraordinary effort and lavish attention to detail, went off like a cannon and were an outstanding success. The readers of the magazine "Karfunkel" ("Carbuncle") voted the 1998 affair the fourth best medieval faire in Germany, and the expected 30,000 visitors this year expect no less.

Take a journey back through time among the ancient trees at Castle Hohenecken in Kaiserslautern, where a stream of visitors will behold the many interesting sights the Middle Ages have to offer: ancient, long-lost crafts, beautiful hand-made wares, and equally outstanding exotic victuals and drink such as mead and great quantities of local dark beer.

Better than ever this year, the many attractions of this cultural event will make history fun and entertaining, as its ever more fascinating program shows:

Our medieval guests will eagerly await the players SALTATIO MORTIS ("Leap of Death"), with six bagpipes playing old melodies with new magic. The music will be fast and will compel you to dance!

The musical group DANSEREYE ("Dancerie") will present its program of early music, and after a short introduction will also lead dancing. Authentic medieval sounds will create an atmosphere of ancient times. Their repertoire includes the minnesingers Walther von der Vogelweide and Oswald von Wolkenstein and their French contemporary Francis Villon.

Numerous individual artists and groups will perform, including the bards and minnesingers Stephan von der Fruehlingsaue, Andra Meistersanf, and Tamar, along with fire-jugglers, storytellers for children, as well as fighting with swords, staves, shields, and such, accompanied by rousing medieval music played on authentic instruments.

Fully 400 medievals will pitch camp on August 16th, and their booths, stands, tents, and camp sites will transform the beautiful park scene into a splendid array of medieval ambiences.

"SEHET UND STAUNET!" Behold and marvel! is the fitting motto for this event, for truly many will behold the scene with open-mouthed wonder.

The Medieval Faire opens its portals Friday from 1300 to 2200, Saturday from 1100 to 2300, and Sunday from 1100 to 2000. Because the Benevolent Company is an all-volunteer organization, it has been possible to hold the admission charge to a spectacularly low "Obulus", much less than most medieval Faires of similar size charge. Children less than a "sword's length" tall (1.38 metres, 4 feet 6 inches) are of course admited free!

A special children's program with storytellers, games, and performers will be on hand, and children will be able to run free if they want to, while their parents enjoy gourmet delicacies and exquisite beverages, served in authentic earthenware vessels.
